This dataset contains Sixth Forms, and Further and Higher Education establishments.
Further Education is post-compulsory education (in addition to that received at secondary school). It may be at any level above compulsory secondary education, from basic skills training to higher vocational education such as; City and Guilds, Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree.
The Education and Skills Act 2008 have increased the minimum age at which young people in England can leave learning. This means that young people are expected to remain in education or training until the end of the academic year in which they turn 17 from 2013 and until their 18th birthday from 2015. This doesn't mean they need to stay at school. This dataset therefore includes both colleges and sixth forms to represent all options for post-16 provision excluding private and alternative provisions.
Further Education is distinct from the education offered in universities, which is known as higher education.
