Adopted Highways were captured as polygons from paper plans, that have now been archived. The GIS dataset is now the definitive dataset. Updates are identified by the data owner in Traffic Management on an ad-hoc basis, and subsequently updated in the GIS data. The data is updated when new areas of highway are adopted, when existing areas of highway are stopped up, or to correct historical anomalies. As of 08/12/2016, this dataset no longer contains roads that are maintained by Highways England.
