Along with emissions from transport and construction, burning wood and other solid fuels can contribute to this air pollution problem.

The whole of the Nottingham City Council area is subject to Smoke Control Orders under the Clean Air Act 1993. Smoke Control Orders declare and define Smoke Control Areas and restrict or prohibit the burning of coal or wood. Each area has a corresponding 'Operative Date' of when the Order came into effect. The smoke control programme has significantly improved air quality for City residents by reducing the concentrations of smoke and sulphur dioxide which are emitted when coal and some other fuels are burned.

For more information, please visit: https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/information-for-residents/community/environmental-health-and-public-protection/pollution-and-nuisances/air-pollution-and-air-quality/smoke-control-areas-and-wood-burning-stoves/

|
