Name: Bridges, Structures and Retaining Walls

Display Field: NAME

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPoint

Description: Location of highways bridges, structures and retaining walls in the City of Nottingham, along with name of owner. Service Tunnel: Tunnel where various utilities (Gas, Electric, provide connections) are enclosed. Retaining Wall: A wall built to support or prevent the advance of a mass of earth or water.HB Rating: All bridges are designed or assessed for ‘construction and use traffic' (C&U) which is a defined set of maximum axle loads and spacings up to 40/44 tonnes on 6 axles. If a bridge fails the 40 tonnes assessment loading then it is given a weight restriction applicable to the next reduced load level it passes, i.e. 33 tonnes, 26 tonnes, 18 tonnes etc.If the bridge passes the 40 tonne assessment loading then the HB or abnormal load rating is calculated. This is then used in routing abnormal loads (e.g. cranes) through the city network. An abnormal load is any load which does not comply with C&U, e.g. a 20 tonne vehicle on 2 axles would not comply with C&U, and would be classed as abnormal as the loading exceeds what is permitted on two axles. Abnormal loads have to be notified to the highway authority 48hrs before they move.
